National Occupational Standards

National Occupational Standards (NOS) are statements of the skills, knowledge and understanding required  by an individual to perform a function to the standards required in employment. 

 

NOS are developed by employers through consultation lead by the Sector Skills Council for the specific industry:

  • Proskills for the Extractive and Mineral Processing Industries

  • Constructionskills for the Construction Industries 

  • SEMTA for engineering and laboratory activities National Occupational Standard (NOS)

NOS are the basis for all NVQs and SVQs, and are also the basis for many QCF qualifications.

NOS have many other uses for example:

  • staff development plans
  • task analysis
  • careers development
